About Barbotine

Barbotine (meaning slip in French) is a technique of pottery decoration involving the application of a ceramic slip for relief decorations. This antique technique involves indeed the application of a liquid clay sip or paste to the surface of a ceramic object before firing. This style of pottery is characterised by bright colours and natural motifs. Barbotine ceramics were produced by various French manufacturers from the second half of the 19th century until around the 1930s.Carefully designed and decorated, this kind of plates allows for a beautiful mix-and-match on your table. Light cracking, sometimes visible, adds charm and beauty to these collector’s items.
